pixel-relish comments and commentary

Pentec Systems needed a website to market it's landmark online 401k system.

Pixel Relish helped Pentec come up with the product name 401k Enginuity, then created a logo and some identity items before turning to designing the website.

The Pentec site is designed to...

Embody Pentec's innovative approach to affordable 401k management.
The flow, graphics, and text of this site needed to be very clean, effortless to follow, yet the text and graphics needed to create an air of the possible.

Appeal to a fairly conservative audience.
Pentec's target audiences are bankers, large third party 401k administration companies, brokerage houses and the like. To this audience, Pentec was marketing branding and use of the full 401k Enginuity system.

Block search engine spidering.
This is not a "public" site. Rather, it's a tool for Pentec's sales and marketing staff to use in educating potential clients about 401k Enginuity. Anit-spidering coding, lack of meta tags and an all-image home page discourages spiders and keeps the site out of Google and other search results.

Steer readers toward key pages.
Always a priority. For the Pentec site, we kept navigation very simple, linking to detailed information from within text body rather than including EVERY page in the main navigation panel. We did put the detail page links in the footer so people revisiting the site could quickly locate desred pages. Most first-time visitors view the site while talking to a Pentec representative and thus have no trouble finding information they seek. At Pentec's request, we also formatted the site's content within an extensive PDF, downloadable from the site. (We designed the original PDF but Pentec Systems handles its updates as well as those to the site.)

Break information into digestible pieces.
Writing for the Internet is a discipline. Paragraphs are best kept short and to the point, because reading on screen is tiring. For this site, Pixel Relish worked from information supplied by Pentec's company president as well as from 401k Enginuity's developers. Technical language, in particular, needed some softening.

Worry more about presentation than load times.
Quick load times weren't a priority for this site because the target audiences have high-speed Internet connections. (FYI, Pixel Relish designed this site many years ago. If revisiting it today, we'd incorporate a very well-placed animation or two as well as an interactive tour of 401k Enginuity's key features, budget permitting. We'd also freshen up the type and its presentation, all of which would increase load times but likely serve the presentation well.)

Just to clarify...
401k Easy Online, linked to from back on the main Portfolio page, is an end-user version of 401k Enginuity. Easy Online is Easytec Partners' branded version of Enginuity; Easy Online is for individual business to handle individual 401k plans, whereas 401k Enginuity is for 401k businesses to market and service 401k plans
