pixel-relish comments and commentary

Prescient imports and distributes specialty paints and architectural finishes. The company wanted a website that embodied the textured qualities of its products yet that was still quick to load, easy to navigate, and that would appeal to search engines.

Unfortunately, Prescient closed its doors before the site could be implemented. But we, like Prescient's president and Chief of Marketing, really liked our ideas for the site, so we've decided to include the mockups in our portfolio.

The items shown at right are NOT functioning Web pages.
Rather, they're a slide show-like series of interlinked mockups depicting the design for various aspects of the site. Click anywhere on one mockup to move to the next. Please be patient, though: each mockup may take a moment to load (again, these are NOT final web pages, they're giant jpeg mockups).

-- Missing is the actual text; nonsense text was typed in as a placeholder.

-- Missing is the Flash animation that would have born movement and color changes to the squares and swooshes on the home page.

-- Missing is the functional navigation (and hence your ability to control the order in which you view the pages).

-- Missing is most of the content.

To navigate...
Click anywhere on the home page mockup to see one depicting the drop-down menu style. "Fractalis" shows up highlighted within the list because that's the product page mocked up in the ensuing page.

Click anywhere on the Fractalis page to see a sample of what would appear if the viewer clicked on one of the Fractalis products, "Goatskin" in the example. From there the viewer could choose to view specific product information and/or the product's press release; neither link is functional within the mockups because the information has yet to be received from the client.

Click anywhere again to move to the next slide: Distributors. Users would select a U.S. state from the pull-down menu, at which point the pertinent information would load.

The "Projects" tab is for linking to photos of the products in action. We envisioned both in-progress as well as finished project narrated examples.

Multi-dimensional audience.
The site needed to appeal to the modernist tastes of architects as well as to the no-time-to-waste needs of sales reps. It also needed to provide contractors and artisans with access to the highly detailed application specifics they'd need to actually use the products. All the while, the site needed to reflect the peace and tranquility of the products' old-world Italian roots.

We completed a great deal of print material for Prescient and its sister company Procos, which marketed lower-end paints and finishes. See our portfolio's "for Print" pages for some samples.
