Paint Can Labels

challenge...
Typeset to existing specs for 1200 dpi desktop output onto glossy label stock. Crerate as a series of PDF forms into which the client's employees can type the product name, description, etc., before outputting on an as-needed basis. Recreate WaterCraft floating elements logo, which is used for several related product lines. Choose simple but distinctive logo type for selected product lines. Use Helvetica in predetermined sizes for content name ("Pixel" in the sample at right) and description ("Finish Coat" in the same example).

Pixel Relish also produced a specialized set for a photoshoot.

solution...
This project didn't require much creativity on our part because the client wasn't interested in altering any of the label layouts or design. But the project did require close attention to detail and quick turn-around. We used Adobe Illustrator to recreate the WaterCraft floating elements logo, then typeset all the labels using Adobe InDesign. The file for each product included the label for the front of the paint can then, below that, the typesetting for the back of the can; as you can see from the samples at right, the back label copy, too, varied from product line to product line. We typeset each pair on its own page, then exported to PDF. Within Acrobat we then set the form fields that would allow the client's warehouse personnel to input the specific product information before printing the label.
