LOW-BUDGET SITE...
cihn.org

challenge...
Create an inviting site to raise awareness and educate about CIHN's efforts to help homeless families in the greater DC area, and to inspire people to join the effort by donating time, funds or both.

solution...
Draw from CIHN's simle yellow-and-blue letterhead, which features a small child-like drawing of a house. Add some texture to create a warmer feeling. Add a subtle DC landscape. Put contact information front and center. Make the actual content simple to update to keep ongoing costs to a minimum. Gear text toward readability but also search engine relevancy.

LOW-BUDGET SITE...
cchrc.com

challenge...
A local dog club wanted a simple, low-cost site that would facilitate communication between members and about upcoming events. The site replaced what was basically an online bulletin board. Educating the public about hunting retrievers and recruiting new members were not priorities.

solution...
Pixel Relish selected a photo of one of the members with a pair of her Labs for the masthead, tinting the photo to soften it and give it an end-of-a-great-day feel. We rounded the page corners for interest, and we cropped the photo in a rolling-hill fashion reminiscent of much of the local countyside. For the navigation elements, we went with an older-world typeface, then we accented the pages with a couple of sepia-tone images to intimate at the sport's long-standing traditions. The site is young and still growing in content. The Brags page is a fun one to visit.

LOW-BUDGET SITE...
wild planet seafood

challenge...
Wild Plant, a sustainable fishery, needed a web site in quick order for an upcoming trade show. Pixel Relish needed to design and create the site in less than a week -- and without the opportunity to discuss any aspects of the project with the client (Pixel Relish was hired as a subcontractor). Pixel Relish was given a z-fold Wild Planet brochure as well as the swimming fish photo and company logo to work from.

solution...
We continued with the waves element set forth in the logo, cropped the swimming fish photo to its most interesting, textured section, then screened the navigation elements on top of it. To the right we placed the text block. We used a mixture of text and text-graphics to give the text area interest.
