FOR WEB -- web sites & software, email ads, manuals & more

PRO BONO SITE...
slodog.org

challenge...
Convert what was basically a bulletin board of outdated content (on top of the ubiquitous puppy-foot-print background) into a cohesive web site through which club members can communicate with each other and educate the public at large about responsible dog ownership.

solution...
Pixel Relish started by creating a SLODOG logo type, then built a search engine friendly site made up of pages that load quickly, offer general as well as club-specific content, and embody the club's fun yet responsible attitude. Photos, with informative captions, on popup pages (so not to slow loading of main pages). Calendar & Events column (right-hand of all interior pages) highlights upcoming activities and links to the events as well as to a year-long calendar. Pixel Relish wrote (then SLODOG reviewed) most of the content contained in the site.

WEB SITE...
colton fowler, race car driver

challenge...
Design a site for an up-and-coming race car driver to attract sponsors and communicate with fans.

solution...
Create a vibrant "Colton Fowler" masthead in a look that ties in with the sport as well as Colton's car. On the home page, use a black background for drama, text -- upsized for readability on the dark background -- for search engines, and a Flash element in a white moon to capture night racing's action. For the interior pages, convert the white moon into a rectangular area for text; reduce the size of the type now that it's on a white background. Keep a dark left column for photos and other interest-adding elements. Use red for text links that sit on a white background, yellow and red for those on the black background. Use red for text headers; make bold (and no mouse-over color change or underscore) to differentiate from links. Sharp, clean lines for a masculine feel.
